Up in the Air
The NW-44 has already logged more than 15,000 combat hours , having proven its adaptability and reliability across a range of platforms and applications . Capable of burning a range of fuel types — including nonethanol 93-100 octane gasoline and Jet-A1 , JP-5 , JP-8 , TS-1 and F35 — the NW-44 is not subject to export controls . The engine weighs 4,344 grams , plus or minus 200 grams , including the propeller , cowling and interface harness .
Its maximum continuous speed is 7,500 rpm and it generates 3.5 HP at 7,250 rpm on a displacement of 43.6 CC . A permanent magnet alternator incorporated into the design provides a total of 280 watts , of which 250 watts are available to power aircraft systems other than the engine . A conformaltype muffler reduces parasitic drag and substantially reduces engine noise .
Like the NW-44 , the NW-88 is capable of burning both gasoline and heavy fuels to power an aircraft weighing between 75 and 150 pounds . With a displacement of 88 CC , the NW-88 generates 7.2 HP at 7,250 rpm . Its maximum continuous rpm is 7,500 . Its total weight , including propeller , cowling and interface harness , is 7,400 grams , plus or minus 100 grams .
