A
nother digital solution,
Airplane Health Management, uses
analytics capabilities to evaluate,
in real-time, up to five million
conditions across a fleet of more
than 5,500 airplanes around the
world each day. This applica-
tion provides essential predictive
maintenance alerts, to help airlines
plan ahead for needed maintenance
tasks, and more effectively maintain
and operate the fleets that use this
application.
For Boeing, it’s not just about
the data; it’s what you do with it.
Our goal is to empower front-line
employees to take action, because
that’s when the data translates into
real savings for our customers.
The cost and time savings commercial airlines have achieved using our digital solu-
tions are well known, but the real Boeing advantage is our ability to leverage these
powerful digital tools across all the market segments we serve. That means driving
innovation and tailored solutions for the business and general aviation markets, and
it means bringing commercial best-practices to government customers, implement-
ing powerful analytics solutions to improve the performance and mission-capable
rates of vital defense platforms.
One real-world example is Boeing’s partnership with the U.S. Air Force to use data
and analytics to improve performance for the C-17 Globemaster III. By using data
analytics services to assess engine performance and institute proactive maintenance,
Boeing and the USAF reduced the need for fuel-guzzling engine tests. Based on
actual performance at an Air Force base, these solutions are estimated to save six
million pounds of fuel per year across the C-17 fleet.
I believe the thing that sets apart Boeing’s digital and analytics applications is the
aerospace engineering expertise that only we can deliver. Boeing has more data
than any other original equipment manufacturer worldwide. We are executing real
analytics on more than 8,000 commercial and military aircraft, and we have got
decades of insights to bring to the table.
