Memories of visiting my great-grandmother as a very young boy evoke powerful feelings of excitement . Her home had old-fashioned keyholes in all the doors that allowed me to peek into other rooms , as I ’ d seen in cartoons . More significantly , the home was also in the direct flightpath of a busy nearby airport . Every time a massive jetliner roared overhead while landing , the ground would shake , and I would envision the adventures the people on board must have been returning from . I dreamed of flying on a plane myself , but it seemed very out of reach because my parents had never been on a plane themselves .
