Corporate Membership and Business Opportunities
Although 42 percent of U . S . businesses are women-owned , significant disparities in revenue and capital still exist between these companies and those owned by men . One of the ways WBEC helps to bridge that gap is by assisting WBEs in their pursuit of government and corporate contracts , global expansion , and business development . Through its Corporate Membership Program , WBEC connects women-owned suppliers seeking procurement opportunities with major corporations and government agencies committed to a diverse supply chain .
WBEC ’ s relationships with its corporate members often start in their supplier diversity departments , which in turn , create new avenues for WBEs to access prospective customers . As Greene describes ,
“ Through our corporate members , WBE ’ s can get an audience . While there is no guarantee or promise they ’ ll get the business , they at least have a chance that they otherwise wouldn ’ t .”
These introductions can lead to new business and strategic partnerships that are valuable to the corporate members and WBEs . Members have access to a pipeline of over 14,000 WBENC-certified businesses across the country . If a member has a particular need or sourcing request , Greene and her team can work to find partners or solutions within the WBEC database . They facilitate supplier outreach , collaboration opportunities , and matchmaking activities .
