This is the Nederburg Auction, an exclusive annual event to which wine connoisseurs are invited to taste and bid on a collection of South Africa’s most iconic wines, all hand PAGE 36 / NORTHERN HILLS / EASTER ISSUE 2015 selected by a panel of renowned local and international judges. The wines showcased at the Nederburg Auction are not sold anywhere else. Many of them are very old vintages, available in very limited quantities, which adds to their rarity and makes them extremely sought after by wine collectors all over the world. A few such wines that will be sold at this year’s event include a Muscat d’Alexandrie dating right back to the 1800s, and a Nederburg Edelkeur from the 1970s. Worth the wait?
