Alice and Alison were twins. Alice was just a few minutes older than Alison. As with other twins, they were too similar to be distinguished. Not only their classmates, but their teachers and relatives were often bewildered by the similarity between the twins.
One day, Alice and Alison were watching cartons in the parlor. Their mother was cooking in the kitchen.

“ Alison, could you go to store to buy some green beans for me?” called their mother.“ Ok, mum, I will go now.”
The store was not far from their home. However, ten minutes passed, then thirty minutes, then an hour. Alison was not coming back. In the end, their mother did not get her green beans. Actually, Alison has never come back. The police searched the whole town, but they did not find the Alison. One rainy day, the police found the Alison in the sewer. The couple was extremely grieved. Alice was hid herself in the corner of her own room for many days. She did not know how to face her loneliness and pain.
As time passed by, the pain became buried in the deep heart. People would never mention the Alison around her. Alice had to go to school by herself, do homework by herself. When she was alone, she always remembered the Alison.
Alice grew out of her dolls and toys. She began to make boyfriends. She often wondered, if Alison were alive, what kind of boy she would like? What kind of club she would join? What kind of gift she would get for her friends or parents for Christmas. She missed Alison so much. In fact, she always felt an accusation directed against herself. Perhaps she could not accept that the Alison had truly died. Perhaps she did not know whether to tell her parents that she was Alison and not Alice. Perhaps she felt guilty because she should be the one who had died.
Flash back to the day before Alison died. An interesting idea had occurred to Alison. She said to Alice,“ Alice, how about changing our identification?”
Alice pinched her eyebrows with a puzzled expression. Alison continued.“ That is to say, you are Alison, you are me. How about it?”“ Ann it sounds interesting. Maybe we can try it for a few days,” said Alison.
No one would ever know that the person who died was Alice, not Alison. Their identification had changed.
