PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENTS PROTECT AND SERVE
A safer community is the product of an engaged community – with neighbors, businesses, leaders, and public safety agencies working together. In Vadnais Heights, law enforcement services have been provided by the Ramsey County Sheriff’ s Department for over 50 years under a contract agreement shared with six neighboring communities: Arden Hills, Gem Lake, Little Canada, North Oaks, Shoreview, and White Bear Township.
Services are provided by Deputy Sheriffs to the 75,000-plus residents of the area. Contracting allows cities to select law
Allina Hospitals and Clinics, assisted by the Vadnais Heights Fire Department, provides emergency medical services.
enforcement services that best meet their needs. The Sheriff’ s Department then provides those services for the cost incurred. The seven cities have chosen a lean response model. The Patrol Station is located in Arden Hills at the intersection of Highway 96 and Hamline Avenue, near the Ramsey County Public Works facility.
The Vadnais Heights Fire Department( VHFD) partners with the Sheriff’ s Department to protect Vadnais Heights and neighboring communities; VHFD has a mutual aid agreement that answers fire and medical calls for Vadnais Heights, Arden Hills, Shoreview, North Oaks, White Bear Lake, Little Canada and Maplewood.
To expertly fulfill its mutual aid agreement, VHFD operates two stations – a south location in City Center and the other in the northern area of the City. The department is equipped with eight state-of-the-art vehicles: a ladder truck; heavy rescue unit; light rescue unit; grass rig; mini-pumper / rescue; one tanker; and two pumper trucks. It employs four full-time staff and 40 part-time, paid-per-call firefighters who respond to approximately 1,000 annual calls( 2.75 calls / day) for fires in buildings, car accidents, hazardous materials and medical emergencies.
