In December 2017, Twin Cities
Orthopedics opened a brand new,
state-of-the-art clinic next to the
Vadnais Sports Center because
its directors felt the people in the
Northeast Metro area deserved access
to the same world-class facilities and
specialized expertise in orthopedics,
physical therapy and hand therapy as
the rest of the Twin Cities.

Summit Orthopedics has been
providing care for Northeast Metro
residents for 30 years; approximately
30,000 patients are seen annually at
its Vadnais Heights location. In 2017,
Summit’s Vadnais Heights Surgery
Center earned The Joint Commission’s
Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced
Certification for Total Hip and Total
Knee Replacement, the only facility in
Minnesota to receive this prestigious
award.
Regenerative Therapies
Summit’s expert team of physicians,
surgeons, physician assistants, certified
athletic trainers and therapists are
part of the 900-plus employees who
partner to provide quality care designed
to support a healthier, more active
lifestyle. Summit’s team of experts
also provide innovative regenerative
medicine therapies for those looking for
an alternative to traditional treatments.
They can treat arthritic joint pain, sports
injuries, neck and back conditions –
creating an environment to trigger
tissue repair and healing. Regenerative
medicine seeks to decrease pain and
improve function by using your body’s
own natural cellular mechanisms
to accelerate healing, reduce pain
and inflammation, and potentially
regenerate tissue.
Summit offers these treatments in the
form of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and
bone marrow aspirate concentrate
(BMAC) injections, which contain adult
stem cells. Because this is an emerging
area of medicine, physicians are still
exploring how regenerative therapies
work in the body. “The most common
understanding of stem cells is that
they have the ability to turn directly
into other cells, and that may be
the case in the future as technology
expands and regenerative science is
better understood,” notes Dr. Steven
Stulc. “But current research suggests
that these cells may act more like an
orchestrator. That is, when they are
delivered to an injured area, they recruit
other substances to heal the injury.”
These treatments are beneficial for
patients who want to stay healthy and
active, or who are dealing with chronic
joint or soft tissue pain. Exceptions
include patients with specific medical
conditions, or who are taking certain
medications. Overall these injections
have demonstrated that they are safe
and have no known long-term adverse
side effects.

One of the things TCO is most proud
of is how many great relationships it
has with local youth/high school sports
organizations. TCO is the Official Sports
Medicine Provider for three local high
schools and 17 in total across the metro.
TCO supports dozens of youth teams,
booster clubs, and other athletic groups
in the Northeast Metro area and is
always open to new partnerships.
Because of the way TCO is structured
as an independent practice, its patients
have choices and more control over
their healthcare, which is less common
these days. Its physicians make
decisions based on the best interest of
the patient, and don’t have to navigate
the red tape sometimes present within
large health systems. Based on its 98.4
percent patient satisfaction, TCO knows
its model works. Every year TCO is
proud to be the care team of choice for
nearly 4,000 people in the Northeast
Metro area.
