the Northeast
Metro Area

ealthcare organizations not only
provide needed patient care
but also employment that helps
support local economies. According
to the Minnesota Department
of Employment and Economic
Development (DEED) “select
employment statistics for healthcare
and social assistance” for the entire
state in 2017, there were 15,329
establishments, 487,352 jobs with an
average annual wage of $51,012, and a
total payroll of $24,885,516,780.
The following DEED information
is for select Northeast Metro area
communities:
• In Vadnais Heights, in 2015, there
were 36 establishments that provided
over 600 jobs with an average annual
wage of $54,704, and total payroll of
$33,499,233.
• White Bear Lake, in 2017: 90
establishments; 1,413 jobs; average
annual wage of $39,728; and total
payroll of $56,180,692.
• Maplewood, in 2017: 163
establishments; nearly 5,000 jobs;
average annual wage of $59,332; and
total payroll of $294,902,177.
• Shoreview, in 2017: 78 establishments;
nearly 1,400 jobs; average annual
wage of $35,412; and total payroll of
$47,624,334.

Center, Vadnais Heights Since its opening the clinic has been
able to do just that, seeing many new
patients each month and bringing
additional specialties to the clinic. The
clinic serves patients of all ages, with
an emphasis on preventive medicine
and overall health and wellness. It
also provides a variety of specialty
health services such as mental health,
audiology, general surgery, ENT,
urology, spine care and podiatry.

The Allina Health Helene Houle Medical
Center was planned for Vadnais
Heights when the decision was made
to close the Allina Health White Bear
Lake Clinic. “We recognized a need to
expand our services in the area,” says
Angie Mellick, MD, lead physician for
Allina Health Vadnais Heights Clinic.

The Urgency Room (UR) model focuses
on a traditionally underserved patient
population. Patients have a broad range
of options when it comes to where they
receive medical treatment and the UR
strives to fill the gap between urgent
care and the emergency department.
