home to future productions, including the high school’ s fall musicals. The PAC not only enriches the district’ s arts programming, it also has the opportunity to become a hub for the broader community.
“ This project is about more than just a building— it’ s about creating a future for our students that reflects the values and voices of our community,” said Superintendent Wayne Kazmierczak.“ By uniting all of our high school students and staff under one campus, we’ ve created an environment where collaboration, growth and opportunity thrive. This school ensures that our students are not only prepared for today, they are ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow, and we’ re proud to be in a space that honors our past while embracing the potential of our future.”
Honoring Tradition and Embracing Change
Another momentous occasion was the grand opening of Mariner Middle School, celebrated during Homecoming week. The“ Set Sail with
Mariner Middle School” Open House honored the rich legacy of Mariner High School while marking a new beginning. Former Mariner students proudly wore their letter jackets and reminisced as they explored yearbookinspired displays. This blend of past and future underscored the district’ s deep-rooted tradition and commitment to progress.
Meanwhile, construction at the Sunrise Park building is progressing. District Center offices are relocating to Sunrise, transforming the space into the new District Service Center. The move will centralize key administrative functions, improving efficiency and accessibility for staff and community members. Additionally, School Board meetings will transition to the new School Board Room at Sunrise Park and the Senior Program will relocate to Sunrise in the summer of 2025. Looking ahead, by Fall 2026, the building will also house the Early Childhood Center and Transition Education Center, further expanding educational opportunities for learners in the district.
Expanding Educational Opportunities
Beyond infrastructure, White Bear Lake Area Schools is committing to innovative academic programs. In Fall 2025, the district will launch an Elementary Spanish Dual Immersion program at Otter Lake Elementary and Matoska International, with each school hosting up to three kindergarten immersion classrooms, for a potential total of six classrooms district-wide. Transportation will be available to resident families throughout the district for students enrolled in this program.
The immersion program will serve both Spanish-speaking and non- Spanish-speaking students together in a bilingual environment, fostering academic growth, enhanced language and cultural understanding, socialemotional development and expanded future opportunities. By valuing the contributions of every student and family, this program aligns with the district’ s mission to create an inclusive and dynamic learning experience.
