Regenerative Therapies
Summit’s expert team of physicians,
surgeons, physician assistants, certified
athletic trainers and therapists are
part of the 900-plus employees
who partner to provide quality care
designed to support a healthier,
more active lifestyle. Summit’s team
of experts also provide innovative
regenerative medicine therapies for
those looking for an alternative to
traditional treatments. They can treat
arthritic joint pain, sports injuries,
neck and back conditions – creating
an environment to trigger tissue
repair and healing. Regenerative
medicine seeks to decrease pain and
improve function by using your body’s
own natural cellular mechanisms
to accelerate healing, reduce pain
and inflammation, and potentially
regenerate tissue.
Summit offers these treatments in the
form of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and
bone marrow aspirate concentrate
(BMAC) injections, which contain adult
stem cells. Because this is an emerging
area of medicine, physicians are still
exploring how regenerative therapies
work in the body. “The most common
understanding of stem cells is that
they have the ability to turn directly
into other cells, and that may be
the case in the future as technology
expands and regenerative science is
better understood,” notes Dr. Steven
Stulc. “But current research suggests
that these cells may act more like an
orchestrator. That is, when they are
delivered to an injured area, they
recruit other substances to heal the
injury.”
These treatments are beneficial for
patients who want to stay healthy and
active, or who are dealing with chronic
joint or soft tissue pain. Exceptions
include patients with specific medical
conditions, or who are taking certain
medications. Overall these injections
have demonstrated that they are safe
and have no known long-term adverse
side effects.
