The Gateway Lodge, celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, was built in 1938 by radio and theatre magnate John King of Detroit, Mich., whose portrait hangs in the main lobby today. The lodge, constructed with hand-hewn logs, sits on the boundary line that separates Wisconsin and Michigan, and provides lodging, and a fine-dining restaurant. Fitting within its motif of “Come Back To Tradition,” the lodge offers 72 customized, newly renovated suites and studios, a lounge with a hand-built fireplace and large animal mounts, an indoor heated pool, a steaming hot tub and redwood sauna, an on-site trap shooting and sporting clays course, and a wedding and banquet facility that accommodates up to 150 people. The restaurant also features nightly specials, such as an all-you-can-eat shrimp boil Wednesday nights, fish fry on Friday, and prime rib on Saturday. Reservations are accepted. “The Gateway Lodge Restaurant features fine dining in a warm and comfort- able atmosphere with the charm of 1938 that will create a perfect family dining experience,” said Garbarek. The restaurant is open Tuesdays thro ugh Saturdays from 5 to 9 p.m., and open Sundays in the summer.
