Soon after pur- chasing the property, they learned that the Tonkawa Indians, a friendly tribe who got along well with everyone, previously inhabited the land. The Tonkawa Indians would spend their days fishing in the San Marcos River and picking pecans from the pecan trees along the river. The first time the Dillard families all camped together, the prop- erty was surrounded by fireflies at dusk. They soon named the prop- erty Wahwahtaysee Resort, which is Native American for firefly.
