also without fully engaging with us on a monthly consulting level,” adds Bethany. These on-site courses opened up the dialogue with doctors and teams and then led to a specific request by the doctors. Several doctors requested mini-courses that would allow them to con- nect with other dentists and managers and would also give them some quick and necessary training on subjects such as Leader- ship, Creative Ways to Attract the New Patients of Your Dreams, and Staff Hiring. “We found that doctors desired not only courses that would support them in their role as owners but also an opportunity to hear from other owners,” notes Bethany. “However, these courses needed to be affordable and short in duration.” So, Bethany and Amanda launched yet another way to serve their clients with Cocktail Hour Courses for CEOs. Working to keep the costs as low as possible for the owners and managers, they created two- to three-hour courses that occur after work and therefore prevent the doctor from having to lose office production time. In addition, the after work hours opened up the ability for involved spouses to attend as well. “There is something powerful about a good topic, great appetizers, and an opportunity to connect with other owners,” adds Amanda. In addition to providing out-of-the-box courses for doctors, Bethany and Amanda consistently brainstorm ways to better serve the entire dental community, including the critical team members. Early in 2018, their brainstorming led to the creation of the Business of Dentistry Academy. “We both had endured so many subpar courses over the years, and we knew we could do them so much better,” commented Amanda. They began to create courses based on the top needs and complaints of teams. Courses like “Solving Treatment Acceptance Woes,” “Taking Your Dental Assisting Skills from Good to Great,” and “How to Practice Happy” resonated with dentists and teams alike. “In addition to great topics, we wanted to create courses where the attendees could hear from other course attendees, could deeply evaluate themselves and their practice, and could walk away with very clear ways to implement improvements,” adds Bethany. Through brainstorming and out-of-the-box thinking, Amanda and Bethany have created courses that are fun, cost-effective and short in duration. Many of our clients have a difficult time hiring great people.
