Our outgoing TDA president , Dr . Rita Cammarata , has had quite a year . Dr . Cammarata faced some important issues this year , but even with a Sunset review , a legislative year and staffing issues , Dr . Cammarata still managed to visit all 26 societies . Dr . Cammarata has agreed to act as interim ED while the search for the next ED continues .
Our leadership was briefed on current legislative issues . Dentists continue , with the help of our lobbyists , to hold our profession and patient ’ s safety in focus . Our team of lobbyists have managed to keep mid-level providers and hygiene anesthesia out of our practices and keep our patients safe . A recent Washington Post article commends dentists for projecting a remarkably unified voice on issues relating to our livelihood . According to the ADA , 64 % of dentists are members of the association . By comparison , only 25 % of physicians are members of the AMA . The ADA doesn ’ t think a “ lesser trained provider ” is the answer to servicing the underserved population . The ADA believes more funding for prevention and education is where our focus should be . We have managed to keep our profession
The new ADA campaign “ Find-a-Dentist ” includes search engines that will drive new patients into ADA member practices .
Southwest Conference . Dr . Jodi Danna has lined up an impressive roster of speakers for her “ Powering Growth ” meeting . A record 18 new speakers and a new exhibit hall means something different for everyone this year . Be sure to attend .
I hope you have enjoyed this brief update . I ’ m very excited about my appointment to the TDA board and I look forward to keeping North Texas readers informed . Membership in organized dentistry is our strength and our voice . I urge all of you to stay active and to participate so we can continue to keep our patients safe and our profession strong .
Incoming TDA president Dr . Joey Cazares is passionate about giving members a voice . Dr . Cazares has a vision for streamlining communication between leadership and members . Dr . Cazares , a Baylor graduate , is proud to represent the Rio Grande Valley . As a junior board member , I found Dr . “ Joey ” Cazares warm and welcoming . I believe we have a great year ahead .
My biggest take-away from the ADA update was that I should immediately update my profile on the ADA website . The ADA is about to launch a very big social marketing campaign that , as directed by membership , was designed to address the issue of “ business ” in our dental practices . The campaign “ Find-a- Dentist ” includes search engines that will drive new patients into ADA member practices . The ADA marketing director suggests including a photo with your profile for the best search results . and patient ’ s safe while maintaining the way we do business . Strong lobbyists , paid for by your DENPAC contributions , is why we have a strong voice and why , as caregivers and business owners , we enjoy a satisfying profession .
On a local level , the Dallas County Dental Society is excited to present the 2017
