Powering Growth Southwest Dental Conference 2017

T he 90th Southwest Dental Conference “ Powering Growth ” is almost here . Registration numbers are on the rise and I believe and hope that it is the timing of the year that has helped with the boost of attendance . The fast approaching conference has left me feeling amazed that this incredible journey of three years is coming to fruition . It is truly an unbelievable experience to have the opportunity to work with the Scientific Committee of the Dallas County Dental Society . This committee is filled with leaders of our profession whose knowledge and expertise is unparalleled . These members put so much effort into not only the educational portion of this conference but also on behalf of our vendors .

A message from Dr . Jodi Danna
Every year , we work with a wonderful group of volunteers . Our volunteers ( Silver Stars ) look forward annually to be able to participate as a clinician host or session host or chairman of the many committees necessary to bring the conference to life . The Clinician Host position allows our volunteers the chance to meet and host our speakers . The Clinician Hosts guide the clinicians throughout the entire conference and see that they receive the VIP treatment our world class speakers have come to know and appreciate . The Session Hosts help the Clinician Hosts by taking tickets and helping with management of the rooms throughout the conference . Our Exhibit Chairmen are there to facilitate the needs and wants of our vendors . Host and Information and Registration Chairman are our participants ’ first line of hospitality . As you can see , every one of our volunteers , from Registration to Exhibits works tirelessly for the benefit of SWDC .
A glimpse of what is coming
Something new and different is the Interdisciplinary Learning Center ( IDC ). The IDC is a unique program that brings many of the different disciplines of dentistry together , in a designated space , for two full days . This program is sponsored by Dentsply Sirona and will include both lectures and workshops , featuring available programs that the entire operative staff of a dental practice might attend . This unique program offers a selection of topics that include procedural solutions for a patient ’ s treatment plan . These programs could include restorative , orthodontic , endodontic , hygiene , and assistant courses .
In addition to having our annual Assistants , Dental Hygiene , and Doctors CE Express , we will now be offering a New
Dentist CE Express that focuses on the needs of new dentists in whatever practice setting that you may be in .
I am most excited about a topic of great importance . Straight from the Hineman and the ADA meeting in Denver , Dr . Gardiner , Dr . Anderton , and Ms . Jo Jagor will present a simulated malpractice trial , which will give dentists a glimpse of what takes place in a courtroom without the anxiety and tension that comes with real lawsuits . Using records and transcripts from an actual trial , the session allowed attendees to see what types of questioning they may one day face , understand the importance of having proper recordkeeping methods , and realize how much better it is to manage risks in the office , rather than in court .
Please remember that registration is a benefit to membership … meaning no cost to Dallas County Dental Society Members . You can view the complete catalog of speakers and exhibitors online at swdentalconf . org .
If you have any questions , please feel free to contact us . Hope you stay cool in our summer heat .
