Sloan and his brother,
Jed, exploring Costa
Rica and always scout-
ing future remote areas
to serve in.
The recent Nicaragua trip was special, another one in a long series
of voyages since the first big adventure that was originally sup-
posed to be a farewell post-university celebration. After gradua-
tion from Baylor in 1996, Sloan and his crew planned “One More
Trip” to mark the end of one season in their lives and the begin-
ning of the next. The adventure has never ended, and the
“One More Trip” flag now flies on each journey as a reminder to
never stop exploring new lands, always seeking to help others
along the trail.
Sloan has already set his sights on a future destination – the
forested peaks of the Cardamom Mountains near the borders of
Cambodia and Thailand. These mountainous areas were off limits
to Westerners until recently and still remain a remote region that
is isolated and very much unspoiled. Like his other off-the-grid
trips, this one will depend on trusted local contacts to plan point-
to-point routes and set up logistics – including dialing in the de-
tails with the dirt bike outfitter – in advance of the team’s arrival.
For Sloan Hildebrand, the changing seasons of life bring new
adventures. As the father of two young children, he is relishing
the newest season of his life. “Being a parent is an exciting, chal-
lenging, fun, busy time. I really love being a dad – it’s a blessing
