Teenagers – What Their Mouths are Telling You But They ’ re Not : Practical Information on Teen Health Issues
The current and sometimes shocking health behaviors and trends in the younger generation can influence their oral and systemic health . The dental professional has an opportunity during the dental visit to identify risk behaviors and intervene with the teenager to make positive health choices .
Participants will engage in a lively discussion on timely topics relating to teens . Dialogue will include oral and overall health issues associated with cola / sports drink consumption , eating disorders , obesity and substance abuse . Examining high risk behaviors and gender differences prepares the dental professional to initiate conversations that will provide guidance with the health decisions that face the youth of today .
Putting the “ I ” in Team : Interprofessional Patient Centered Care
According to research from the University of Iowa , “ by 2020 the sheer volume of medical knowledge will double every 73 days .” Treating our patients as a whole vs . focusing on a singular diagnosis represents the future of healthcare delivery . Communication among professionals provides a richness of knowledge that creates a “ dream team ” for our patients . Collaborative efforts to obtain , share , and process information contributes to consistent patient centered care . This course is designed to promote intraoffice and inter-office communication to cultivate partnerships throughout all aspects of healthcare . An introduction and review of practice guidelines , customized referrals , and documentation will be explored . The time is now to “ bridge the gap ” in healthcare through adaptation , customization and collaboration .
