PROCEDURE
500mg Amoxicillin + 250mg Metronidazole TID was prescribed three days prior to surgery and seven days post-op . A diode laser was used for gingivectomy followed by full thickness buccal / lingual flap elevation to provide access for debridement , scaling and root planning as well as recontouring irregular osseous architecture and infrabony defects . 5-0 Chromic Gut vertical mattress sutures utilized for closure .
Ruben Ovadia , DDS , MS
Dr . Ruben Ovadia is a Board Certified periodontist and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology with a private practice limited to periodontics and dental implants in Dallas , Texas . Dr . Ovadia has presented his clinical work and research about topics related to Dental Implants and Periodontal Disease both nationally and internationally in Europe and Asia . He is an active member of many professional associations and has written several articles in scientific journals and publications . In addition to his periodontal practice , Dr . Ovadia is an assistant professor and clinical instructor at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas .
RESULTS
At the patient ’ s five-year follow up , she is still periodontally stable with complete elimination of periodontal pockets , no bleeding on probing and reduced mobility .
Patient is not interested in ortho / restorative work due to financial limitations . Alternating periodontal maintenance with general dentist is done every three months .
Periodontal treatment was able to save the patient ’ s natural dentition avoiding the need for dentures at 38 years of age and obtain results that are compatible with health , comfort , function and esthetics .
