hypertension, independent of obesity, age, alcohol intake, and smoking. Obstructive sleep apnea also has a proven association with metabolic syndrome. A pa- tient with metabolic syndrome has in- creased fasting glucose levels (diabetes), lipid abnormalities, increased blood pres- sure, and obesity. Effective treatment of OSA assists with proper management of metabolic syndrome. People with OSA are often fatigued, tired or even sleepy during the day, and find they depend on caffeinated or sugared drinks to keep alert. When breathing is interrupted during an apneic event, the sleep cycle is in- terrupted and the suffering patient moves from a deeper sleep to a lighter stage of sleep. This disruption in the sleep process af- fects their job productivity, personal rela- tionships, and overall health, often without them even realizing it. Patients with OSA have been reported to be 2-7 times more likely to have a motor vehicle crash than control subjects. The need is vast, the op- portunity is unlimited. Dr. Cook’s invitation: As a dentist who has been dedicated to treating snoring and sleep apnea for almost two decades, and as a cofounder of CSS, I want to personally invite you to explore the possibility of adding a Dedicated Sleep Profit Center within your practice. It has been life-changing for my patients, my family, and me. I believe it could be the same for you. Providing a valuable service to your family of patients, while providing a nice profit to you and your practice. My path has taken me from general dentistry to the study of functional orthodontics and neuromuscular dentistry, to oral facial pain, pediatric airway development, the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and now PROformance Power Splints. Each of these areas deal significantly with the positioning of the lower jaw for maximum air flow and have proven to be a tremendous launch pad for developing Comprehensive Sleep Services . Initially, I found it difficult to integrate sleep apnea treatment into my general practice in a comprehensive way. There were many challenges, so our team began to develop sys- tems and protocols that over the years have proven to be simple, efficient and effective. Soon, I began to see more of my patients’ lives change as never before. And now, having cracked the barrier of in-network billing, I believe every patient in North Texas deserves the opportunity to sleep well and live powerfully. It is my goal to impact as many patients as possible. It has been one of my ultimate pleasures to team up with some of the best people in the metroplex who share the same goal. John Truitt’s experience with SomnoMed and Simple Sleep have provided the framework for reaching millions of patients in the North Texas market and hundreds of appliances per month. Trent Titus and Comprehensive Sleep Medicine’s telemedicine and home sleep test platform allows seamless diagnoses, clinical notes, and orders for the appliance.
