How is pediatric dentistry evolving in your office?
It’s an exciting time to be a pediatric dentist! I have more tools in my toolbox than ever
before. Prefabricated esthetic zirconia crowns, Silver diamine fluoride, ICON Resin
Infiltration, and dental lasers are a few products and technologies I have incorporated
into my practice in the last few years. I love having options that allow me to customize
treatment plans for my patient’s individual needs, instead of a “one size fits all”
approach.
What values drive your patient care culture?
Prevention and comfort! Educating parents on building healthy diet and hygiene habits
from a young age is the best foundation for a lifetime of optimal oral health. Creating
positive dental experiences in childhood increases the chances of carrying those healthy
habits into adulthood. My team takes the patient experience seriously and strives to
make each visit a positive one. This is one of many reasons why we offer a variety of
sedation options including nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, in-office IV anesthesia,
and general anesthesia at Children’s Health Medical Center.
How has laser dentistry changed your practice?
Having a hard and soft tissue laser in addition to the traditional handpiece has
expanded the services I can offer, keeps our patients more comfortable, and speeds up
their recovery time. Procedures like frenectomies can be done in a short amount of time
and patients see drastic results almost immediately. The case that stands out most in my
mind was an infant who was failing to gain weight adequately and had reached the point
where his physician was considering placing a G-tube. After his frenectomy, his feeding
skills improved dramatically and he avoided surgery. This was the result of a team effort
between his therapist, pediatrician, and my office. It’s very rewarding to be part of these
appointments. We also have a diode laser my hygiene team uses for bacterial reduction
treatment that is especially helpful for our high-risk patients.

What has been the most worthwhile investment you’ve made in your practice?
Hands down, it’s the continuing education and training we invest in for our team. I know
and appreciate that in order to stay up-to-date with products and technology, we need
to constantly push ourselves to grow and learn. In addition to clinical training, I organize
frequent team building activities so that we can function fluidly. This is essential to delivering
outstanding care to our patients.
What is your favorite part of practicing in the metroplex?
I love the diversity of our patient base. I’m also fortunate to be surrounded by a range of
providers to help coordinate patient care, such as general dentists, orthodontists, oral
surgeons, pediatricians, speech therapists, feeding therapists, and lactation consultants
– to name a few! Our patients’ health is about more than “just teeth,” and we’re privileged
to be part of a team approach to patient care.
