Baseball and softball seasons are underway for the North Port Bobcats , and both varsity teams are off to strong starts .
The softball team is an impressive 8-4 , with 13 games remaining in the regular season . On Tuesday , March 7 , the Bobcats won their first district game of the season against Venice High School . The game , which went to 13 innings , seemed to take a lot out of the team . They lost their next two outings , the most recent against Charlotte . North Port ’ s spring break seems to have come at the perfect time for the Bobcats , who will aim to return to winning form when they face Lemon Bay on Tuesday , March 21 .
Things will not slow down for North Port ’ s baseball team while school is out . Instead , they will travel to Chattanooga , Tennessee , for a tournament that could consist of four or five games . Head Coach Dan Pavlue said the tournament should be a great experience for the Bobcats , who are currently 4-3 . Pavlue said that pitching has been one of the team ’ s biggest strengths so far .
“ We have had tremendous performances each and every game from our pitching staff , and when that has combined with timely hitting and solid defense , we have won baseball games as a result ,” he said .
Pavlue also credits the team ’ s success to its resiliency and its teamwork . The team motto is “ We is greater than me .”
North Port ’ s junior varsity baseball team opened the season with an 11-7 win against its rivals , Port Charlotte , but it has since fallen to 2-3 on the season . The team ’ s next game will be a rematch against the Pirates on March 21 .
The junior varsity softball team went into spring break with an 8-3 record . Through 11 games , the Bobcats have outscored opponents 119-89 and they have posted double digit runs in all eight of their victories . If this group ’ s performance so far this season is in indication , North Port softball has a bright future ahead of it . The JV softball team will also be back in action on March 21 against Lemon Bay .
