20 | NPAR interview JAVIER AMAYA Javier Amaya joins the North Port Athletic Rewind as its newest marketing and sales intern. Amaya is a well-rounded athlete and student scholar at North Port High School. Interview by: Tyler T. Gibson Y OU are involved with many things at NPHS and in the community as an athlete. What activities are you involved in, and how do you keep them all balanced? I play for Fusion Futbol Club U-19 team. I am a student candidate of NPHS AICE program, a Public Relations Officer for National Honor Society and the Executive Vice President of Student Government Association. A S an intern for the NPAR, what are some of the things you are looking forward to and what are some of your goals? I am looking forward to continuing to work and contribute to the growing company. My main goals are to grow as a person as I gain some experience prior to college and make myself useful in as many ways I can. A S a student athlete, what has been some of your biggest challenges? How have you overcome them? My biggest challenge by far has been managing my time. My days are often busy; sleep is often sacrificed. I have to be deliberate with how I stay organized and try not to wait last minute for deadlines or let things pile up too much. W HAT advice would you give to another student athlete that faces these challenges? Keep grinding, but the best thing is just to not overstress everything and take everything one step at a time. You have to stay in a solid, focused mindset. W HAT are your post- graduation goals? Attend University of Florida or University of Central Florida for Business Administration or Marketing. I’d like to own my own business at some point, but besides that I am unsure of any specifics. I like to set goals as I go. W HO at NPHS has helped guide you towards success? I think the three people who have most significant impacted my life at North Port include Mrs. Gentry in student government, Coach Phu Nguyen, for Cross country and Track and Mrs. King, the AICE guidance counselor. Without these three people, I don’t think I would be any where close to where I am now. All have been very supportive, helpful and motivational in my time at the school.
