By Amy Grisak any of us keep bees to help us raise our food without considering whether the bees in our hive have enough to eat. Of course, clover is a prominent source of honey throughout the country, but not everyone lives within range of fields or areas with it growing in abundance, particularly in suburban neighborhoods. And since it takes more than a vegetable garden or a few fruit trees to provide an adequate nectar source for the colony, it’s prudent to understand other potential food sources. It’s nearly impossible to have too much food for the bees so consider planting favorite bee foods when you can, or move your hives to a more bountiful location if your situation prevents the bees from finding an adequate nectar source. 18
