BEE FACT
The honey bee, the Latinate Apis
mellifera has hundreds of single
eyes (ommatidia) arranged
next to each other. Each single
eye contributes a ‘pixel’ to the
image perceived. Honey bees
see in the ultraviolet spectrum.
Flowers leap from the darkerlooking leafy backgrounds, and
they have UV-reflecting landing
strips that light the way for bees
to land in the pollen pocket.
