We opted to fish only in the morning and then to
pack and chill for the afternoon. Our departure
to Mazatlán’ was scheduled for 3:30 a.m. to
meet our 6 a.m. flight. It’s awesome when your
hosts will drive you to the airport that early. This
allowed us an extra day without having to deal
with moving into a hotel and shuttling to the
airport.
After the morning session, a sumptuous lunch
and an hour siesta, I did what I always do. I
went fishing. Only this time, it was unguided
and from the shore in front of the lodge. I put on
a show for the hospitality staff hooking a ton of
fish, including 10 on poppers after the shadows
came out. It was quite the capper on a great
trip and provided me with even more insights on
how to bass fish with a fly rod.
