1) Drain Plugs: If you don’t have these, you will not be fishing for the day. I keep multiple extra drain plugs in my boat. An old guide trick, if you don’t have your drain plugs but you have an extra floatant bottle, you can wrap some plastic around the bottle and it will seal up just fine. 2) Oarlocks: Same here. If you lose these, you won’t be going fishing. I keep a spare set in the boat as I have had these stolen or lost in transit before. 3) Throw Rope/ Life Jackets: We talked about these earlier. They are a must. Buy a good quality throw rope and learn how to use it and carry enough life jackets for you and your crew. 4) Coder Pins: These come in different kinds. You’ll want to carry a few for your oarlocks and stinger hitch for your truck and boat tongue lock. 5) First Aid Kit: There are many types out there and it’s up to you on how big of a kit you’ll want. Having the basics are always a good idea such as; band-Aids, alcohol wipes, Neosporin, scissors, Benadryl, aspirin, bee sting kit etc. 6) Extra Rope and Anchor: I’ve lost one rope and anchor over the years, and it was not fun. Many of my friends have lost multiple in a year. The rope should be the right size in diameter to fit your anchor cleat or foot release. I recommend that 100 feet of rope is not out of the question. It can come in handy for other uses too. 7) Duct Tape/ Electrical Tape/ Zip Ties: You can build a rocket ship with these items! 8) Tool Kit/ Leatherman: It is a good idea to have a small socket set, crescent wrench, and a Leatherman. This will cover most small repairs needed. 9) WD40: You can fuel your rocket with this and quiet squeaky oar locks too, among other things. 10) Flashlight/ Headlamp: So many options here. I like having one large flashlight like a Maglite and fresh batteries as well. The newer kinds with Led lights are great and bright. Headlamps are great for tying on flies or blinding your buddy, so he can’t see his fish. 11) Sunscreen: It’s a good idea to leave an extra tube or two of this in the boat. 12) Serrated Knife: You’ll want a good quality sharp serrated knife that you can cut an anchor rope quickly with. Leave this guy handy near your anchor rope. 30
