the rest of the guides began to roll in
from their guide days. John, obviously
wondering who the heck was standing
behind his shop that he didn’t know
came over to me, I held my hand out
and he just looked at it. Then he asked
me, “What do you do?” and I answered
that I work for North 40. Still with my
hand out and him not shaking it he
asks, “Where at?” and I said, “Montana,”
and he quickly shook my hand and filled
my drink. Really nice people, and I think
they would fit in really well in Montana if
they ever came to visit. He was wearing
Korkers’ Devils Canyons that day, and
mentioned to Nick how much he liked
them.
Mark, Nick, and I headed to the hotel
to find another fisherman coming on
the trip from The Fly Shop in Redding,
CA named Tim. Tim has hair down
to his shoulders, grew up fishing the
Deschutes, drinks Mate, and has done
just about everything outdoors. After
getting to watch him fish, he knows how
to do that too, and a super cool guy to
get to hang out with on the trip. He was
waiting for us in the lobby so he joined
us for dinner at the Riverside in Maupin.
Salmonflies and
golden stones were
flying everywhere.
