Mama's
Cornbread
by Paul Beel // founder of frankenfly.com
Mama’s Cornbread was originally designed for smallmouth bass, but
can be used for trout as well. This fly is kind of a hybrid. First, it is a
bottom beater. If you let it sink to the bottom, it will hit nose first and
flare out the raccoon tail and rubber legs making a terrific action to
trigger a strike. You can hop it along the bottom, if you wish. You can
also use this fly as a streamer with a jigging type action. The natural
alpaca fiber and Deer Creek Gliss ‘n’ Glint synthetic material combines
to make a beautiful waving tail, which draws attention from the fish.
I am happy to say, Mama’s Cornbread was recently accepted by Orvis to
appear in their 2017 catalog. Enjoy!
