Knowing your
DILLON GIVEN
SANDPOINT, ID
Over the years of working at different fly shops, I have noticed that
there are several different types of fly fisherman. I see the different
types every day. Sometimes the type is easily identifiable, and
sometimes I won't know until I fish with him or her. It is important to
understand what kind of fisherman you are. This way, when it comes
to buying equipment, or searching for new water, you will know
exactly what to look for. This is a list of fisherman names I have
come up with to help identify your inner fisherman.
Young Gun
This is exactly how it sounds. A person who is intensely
interested and motivated in becoming the best fly fisherman
possible. This person doesn't necessarily need to be young,
just someone new to fly fishing. Young guns need to fish easily
accessible lakes or rivers that have a high catch rate. Whether
this means fishing stocked ponds from a dock or buying a
guided trip, it is important for Young Guns to learn how to
successfully catch fish. The kind of equipment a Young Gun
typically buys are the essentials. A decent fly rod, cheap vest,
a fly box or two with a couple dozen flies. No doubt that the
equipment will build and evolve over time for a Young Gun.
