Pretty soon, Bruce Berry from Beulah,
Michael White from Simms, Trevor Covich
from OPST, Brandon Prince from Echo/Airflo
and Brian Silvey along with a crew from R.L.
Winston joined in. Klause Frimor and Gordon
Sim from Loop called Calvin Fuller when they
heard about our plan and they filled out the
crew.
Friday arrived with a snowstorm, but despite
blizzard conditions in the morning, everyone
made it to the river for our afternoon casting
seminar. With fresh snow on the ground and
dripping from the trees, we cast away into a
splendidly calm and beautiful afternoon.
Saturday dawned clear and frosty, but before
long, the sun was warm and everyone was
shedding layers and wishing for sunscreen.
Most participants stayed the entire day
and took advantage of the elite crew.
Presentations covered casting techniques,
tackle recommendations, and trout spey
fishing tactics. Impromptu personal casting
instruction sessions went on all day. When
you’ve got a chance to go one on one with
some of the best casters and anglers on
the planet, you take advantage. We’ve also
got plenty of spey casting experience in our
North 40 crew and everyone was out casting
before, during, and after the presentations.
I tried to get around and say hello to everyone
during the day. I discovered that we had
visitors from West Yellowstone, Ennis,
Twin Bridges, Billings, Bozeman, Missoula,
Cascade, Great Falls, Salmon, Idaho, and
a couple guys who drove all the way from
Texas. I want to thank everyone that attended
our inaugural event. Spread the word,
because we will be back next year with even
bigger plans for Trout Spey Clave 2.
stay tuned for the next montana trout spey clave...
