Get ready to wash the pollen off your drift boat because summer is finally here. If you haven't been out fishing the lakes yet, get out in the lawn after dinner and practice your "10 to 2" because the Methow River is really dropping into shape and the fish are hungry! The month of June is one of my favorite months of the year. Mainly because it’s all about the stoneflies. They are generally big meaty bugs and all that means to me is that I get to throw large dries. There is nothing like a rainbow or brown annihilating your fly on the surface. You’re almost so mesmerized by the excitement you forget to set the hook. Exciting stonefly hatches aren't the only thing happening in June. The WDFW has projected a banner year in returns for Columbia River Chinook salmon and steelhead. The returns have been so high already that the Wenatchee River has opened for spring Chinook for the first time in 20 years. If you’re planning on chasing any Kings on the fly better gear up with an 8 to 10 weight because you'll be in for the fight of your life. Furthermore, in the new happenings in Washington, Big R Fly Shop's welcomes Paul Angiolillo as the new fly shop manager in Omak. Paul has just recently moved from Dillon, MT and is excited for the diversity of fisheries that Washington State has to offer. Although a young guy, Paul has been immersed in the fly fishing business since graduating high school. He cut his teeth guiding across Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Yellowstone National Park
