Downstream from Tepee Creek the river
starts to grow as several tributaries
dump cool water into the North Fork and
the river becomes floatable at various
water levels. Fishing is also good from
shore for most of the river. Further
downstream towards Enaville the river
widens and slows and during the
summer weekends the river becomes
choked with an epic splash and giggle
hatch of non-fishing floaters. I would
recommend staying away from this part
of the river any time after mid-June
until the weather cools.
The Fishing
The river is full of all sizes of west slope
cutthroat trout, that have been caught,
and recorded, up to 24”. Stories of larger
fish float around the shop, however,
these could be true or they could simply
be fishing stories exchanged between
anglers during the off months to help
motivate other anglers. The river is host
to several large hatches, making it a
very good dry fly fishery. Almost every
type stonefly hatches in the CDA
including Skwalas and Salmonflies.
The river also has a large Green Drake
hatch, as well as brown and gray drakes.
