Stripping baskets are another beneficial
accoutrement to have while patrolling the beaches
of the lake. Stripping baskets greatly help extend
the life of an $80 fly line and prevent missed shots
from line tangled at your feet. Often, you will catch
glimpses of a pod of “cruisers” within casting
distance. If you are forced to move to get a shot,
you don’t want your fly landing 20’ short because
you are inadvertently stepping on it.
These types of takes add to the level of excitement.
Watching one of the pack of water wolves break
off and hunt down your fly with a devouring take
is heart stopping. Just to watch them follow is
exhilarating. Often these fish will pursue a fly right
to your feet before breaking at the last second. It’s
a thrill that forces you to sit and reflect upon the
experience.
