Ross reels brings back the cimmarron I got to know Ross Reels really well about 15 years ago. I spent several (off Alaska guiding) seasons working at a fly shop in Colorado. I toured the factory in Montrose Colorado and even joined the Pro Staff. I have a bunch of Ross Reels and they have always served me well. My first pair of Cimmarron reels have been beaten and battered by countless clients and countless Alaskan trout and salmon. They are as good now as they were 15 years ago and I’m sure they will be the same in 15 more. The new Cimmarron is updated with a lighter frame, a broader drag range and new styling, but it still maintains its classic Ross Reel looks. Fishpond Sushi Roll Sage Mod I will admit that I’m a Sage fan and I love the One series rods. I fish big water and windy conditions a whole bunch (Alaska/Missouri River). Now that I’m based in Montana, I can also see a niche for a Mod (moderate action) rod. I’m fishing smaller waters more often and occasionally, the Mo provides close in shots at rising fish without the wind. For those situations, the Mod would be spot on. For those who think the Sage One is too fast, I don’t see how they would not love the Mod. I cast the 5 wt Mod at the show and I really like it. No surprise. Casting indoors, a good caster can easily laser a loop across the pond. For real world fishing applications, it should be ideal for 20’-40’ casts when accuracy and presentation count. Basically, its a perfect trout rod. It is buttery smooth to cast and with the benefit of Konnetic Technology, the line and leader track straight as an arrow. Fishpond announced the release of their updated Sushi Roll fly storage. The Sushi roll is a foam pad that rolls up in to a sushi looking storage space for your big flies that are often hard to use in a traditional fly box. Since many streamer fisherman store their streamers in large boat boxes, the sushi roll allows you to carry these streamers in an easier to carry way. They are extremely light weight, have spacers to make sure your streamers don’t get crushed, and now come with Velcro tabs so that you can roll it out and attach it to your cooler, drift boat, or anywhere else you may want to keep it out for extended amounts of time. It will come in three sizes.
