After the lake dropped in level, it started
having problems with winter kill of the
trout. Then, the local Methow Fly Fishing
club along with the state fish and wildlife
department stepped up and put in a
aerator system to combat the winter kill
problem and it has been working ever
since. Even though the lake is lower the
fishing is very good. Big Twin is under the
select gear rules so a boat can only have an
electric motor on it. The lake being small
is ideal for pontoon boats as well as the
float tube style boats. Another local lake to
the east is Davis Lake. This lake is about 40
acres in size and holds rainbows up to 18".
There is a WDFW boat access at both Big
Twin and Davis Lake, but you will need a
parking pass to use them
Two local lakes that fly anglers like to fish
were rehabbed this last fall. Located west
of Omak, Green Lake was infested with
under sized Bluegills and gold fish. The
other lake is Rat Lake, located west of
Brewster, which had unwanted bullhead
catfish and crappie. Both lakes are slated
for restocking, but I was unable to learn
when this might happen. I do know the
state fish and wildlife will be restocking
rainbows in Green Lake and rainbows and
brown trout in Rat Lake.
Another small lake that is west of
Okanogan a few miles is Buzzard Lake.
