I won’t get any more expansive or encompassing than I already
have—the trip out with these guys solidified for me the fact
that it’s not only passion that unifies true fly fisherman—it’s
the act itself, like any art, that allows a person to develop a true
awareness of themselves—and in developing that awareness,
perhaps another precept is revealed, “Know thyself.”
I’ll leave it here with a few relevant quotes that blend lit, philo
and fish:
“Some go to church and think about fishing, others go
fishing and think about God,” Tony Blake.
“Creeps and idiots cannot conceal themselves for long
on a fishing trip,” John Gierach.
“The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is
elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions
for hope,” John Buchan.
