F
ishing around Sandpoint has
started to pick up with the spring
weather hitting us early. The lower
Coeur d’Alene River and the St. Joe
River are putting out some nice fishing
on streamers and nymphs. Some
stoneflies and baetis are beginning to
pop in the afternoon on warm days.
The Clark Fork River around St. Regis
is fishing really well. Skwalas are
showing themselves and the baetis
hatches are improving. Fishing skwala
dropper rigs works excellent this time
of year.
Lake Pend Oreille is beginning to
warm up and the black ants will most
likely be early this year. I am thinking
around the end of April. We are on a
+ PONDERAY
mission to hit that hatch this year and
do a full photo essay on that fishery.
We are really hoping for some quality
fish on dries. The bass fishing will
also be picking up as the lake fills and
warms. Look for good fishing in the
stained water in the sloughs.
Our smaller lakes will begin fishing
well very soon. The stocking schedule
is available on the IDFG website here:
http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/fish/stocking/
If you are taking a little one fishing it
is best to hit the lakes about 1 week
after they are stocked. Fishing is very
active and it definitely keeps the kids
interested.
