Julia Christopher-White loved being around horses growing up in the small town of DeSoto , Missouri .

Knowing she wanted to help animals for a living , Christopher-White earned her bachelor ’ s degree at the University of Missouri before moving to Manhattan , Kansas to attend Kansas State University , receiving her Master ’ s Degree in ruminant nutrition and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine .
After completing an internship in equine medicine that brought her to Oklahoma and already in equine practice , she and her husband , Dr . David White , bought a practice from a practitioner . The practitioner provided animal chiropractic services and suggested she should seek a certification for it .
That conversation led her to Options for Animals under Sharon Willoughby , who Animal Chiropractic calls “ the founder of modern chiropractic vet care .”
She and her husband now run White Equine Veterinary Services , incorporating the treatment modality into her practice to improve the comfort and lives of farm and domesticated animals . Christopher-White said the basis for chiropractic in animals is similar to humans , because it promotes self-healing of the body .
“ When your nervous system is functioning correctly , then all other systems will follow suit ,” Christopher-White said .
Dr . White examines a patient at her clinic in Purcell .
