The origine of car models at 1:43 scale In 1930, a collaborator of Franck Hornby, creator of the Meccano brand in Liverpool in England, reproduced a reduced model of a boat with a length of 3 yards (or 2.7432 m) and its model measures 2.5 inches (or 63.5 mm). The scale conversions are as follows: 1 inch = 25.4mm 1 foot = 12 inches = 304.8 mm 1 yard = 3 feet = 36 inches = 914.4 mm The relationship between the real model and the reduced model is thus established at: 3 yards x 36 inches = 108 inches / 2.5 inches = 43.2 Subsequently, Meccano used this scale of 1:43 and produced, from 1931, the series of "Modeled Miniatures": various subjects, station characters, ... In 1932 miniatures of trains appeared at the "0" scale (1:43) and in 1933 miniature cars which were renamed shortly after "Dinky Toys". 85
