Porsche, the German sport car manufacturer, was founded by Ferdinand
Porsche in 1930. As a design office at first, Porsche was famous with its
work on the Auto Union racing cars and the KDF Wagen which would later
become the Volkswagen "Beetle". The very first car to bear the name
Porsche is the unique 356/1, built in 1948. It is, thus, the ancestor of one of
the most successful manufacturers in motorsport history and the start of a
legendary line of sport cars.
