nom que son numéro de série : CSX0001. Carroll Shelby dit avoir vu dans un rêve un
cobra devant sa voiture, ce qu’il écrivit sur un bloc-notes avant de se rendormir. En
relisant ses notes le lendemain matin, il sut que "Cobra" était le nom qu'il lui fallait.
Qui est Carroll Shelby ? Carroll Shelby, né au Texas, dans le sud des Etats-Unis en 1923, est l’une des
personnalités les plus remarquables dans l’histoire de la course automobile. D’abord
pilote, il devient mondialement célèbre en remportant l’édition 1959 des 24 Heures
du Mans, en duo avec Roy Slavadori sur une Aston Martin DBR1/300 de l’écurie David
Brown. L’année d’après, il arrête sa carrière de pilote pour se consacrer à son rêve de
gosse : créer une voiture de sport américaine qui puisse battre les Ferrari pour trois fois
moins cher. Il donne naissance en 1962 à la mythique AC Cobra 260, qu'il déclinera dans
de nombreuses versions. On lui doit également la Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350 de 1965
et la Ford mustang Shelby GT 500 de 1967. Carroll Shelby est aussi connu pour ses
travaux sur la Ford GT40, qui permirent à cette dernière d’accéder à la gloire en battant
Ferrari pour la première fois aux 24 Heures du Mans en 1966.
Carroll Shelby s’est éteint le 10 mai 2012 à Dallas au Texas.
The AC Cobra is a combination of a British AC Ace and a high-capacity Ford V8
engine in 1962. The AC Ace has been on the market since 1952 and its sales are
down when this new engine gives it a second life. This association is the work
of the American Carroll Shelby.
Where does the name
Cobra come from ? When the first vehicle was already on its way to Europe by sea, it had no designation
other than the serial number CSX0001. According to Carroll Shelby, one night he woke
up from a dream in which he saw Cobra on the front of his car. He wrote this down on a
notepad and went back to sleep. When he looked at his note the next morning, he knew
“Cobra” was the right name.

racing history. First a driver, he became world famous by winning the 1959 edition of

the David Brown team. The following year, he stopped his driving career to focus on his
childhood dream : creating an American sports car that could beat the Ferrari for a third
of the price. In 1962, he gave birth to the legendary AC Cobra 260, which he declined

1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500. Carroll Shelby is also known for his work on the Ford
