Jouko Pöyhönen says that a diverse range of housing will be built in the Keimolanmäki area: “The area is an important part of the new Marja-Vantaa district.” The intention is to build mainly apartment houses here, but also municipal services and business premises will be realised in the area. The first stage of housing construction is planned to begin in 2013 and the entire area will be built by 2023. Keilaniemi Goes Residential Talking about the action along the new metro line, it all starts with the actual point where the metro surfaces from under the sea in Keilaniemi. Alongside the formidable corporate headquarters which line up on the shoreline, SRV wants to introduce new kind of residential innovation: namely, the Keilaniemi Towers. According to the plans, Keilaniemi Towers is to feature four housing towers which will not be dwarfed by their neighbours: with 30–40 storeys each, the buildings will reach 100 metres. The area under development includes almost 80,000 square metres of residential building volume. The key idea is that the residential development plan will go hand in hand with the construction of the metro line – and the first tower would be opened around the same time as the Keilaniemi station starts operations in 2015. “Since the traffic arrangements in the area are very challenging, the planning must be conducted very thoroughly,” says Pöyhönen, adding that the zoning issues of the project will be cleared up in early 2012.
