According to Pitkänen,
green thinking is really in the
core of the ambitious project. He
says that environmental principles have guided the undertaking from day one.
“Skanska, in general,
wants to be the leading company in green construction. Here
in Finland we share the same
commitment and this is another
opportunity to show everybody
what we can do.”
Skanska is the Finnish pioneer under LEED (Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design) certificate. Developed in
2000 by the US Green Building Council, the LEED Green
Building Rating System has
spread around the world.
In principle, the LEED
system is similar to the EU
Green Building system, but
it covers more specific areas.
Starting with planning stages
of the project, LEED requires
