Captains Report – February 2023 Dear Nomads

It ’ s into February already and our second monthly game was hosted by Athlone Golf Club . The course has been under tremendous pressure from the floods in 2022 and incessant rain leading up to our game but it was amazing to see the how well the course recovered . The course played fair and a premium on finding fairways paid off for some with very good scores recorded . Those who ventured into the semi and rough paid the price .

Congratulations to our monthly game divisional winners on the day Steve McClelland 37 off a 9 , Brian Venter 37 off a 15 and the best score of the day John Elliott 40 of a 17 , what an outstanding effort .

Special presentations were made to Tony Graham 20 years and Werner Pieterse 5 years .

The beginning of the year as always brings about resignations and we ’ ve had no fewer than 10 members resigning citing medical , retirement and personal reasons for the resignations . We would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best in their future endeavours and would like to assure them that they are always welcome to join the Natal Nomads at any time in the future .

Currently the Natal Nomads are in a healthy financial position and all the portfolios have reported positively for the year to date .

We have seen a decline in our monthly numbers again and we would like to once again ask members to invite guests to our monthly games to ignite the interest into Nomads .

The National Tournament will be held in Bloemfontein from the 11 ^th March this year and Natal will be sending 27 Elite Natal Nomads Golfers ready to defend the Bert Hunt trophy in just over three weeks ’ time . We have a lot of faith in our team and feel confident that they will deliver .
