Vasilis Tsartsanis was born and raised in Thessaloniki. The 43-year-old Greek earns his living as a hairdresser and is the executive producer of Balkan Express, a documentary series about the hidden cultures and traditions of the Balkans.
Vasilis has filmed documentaries in countries around the world including Bulgaria, Libya, Germany, Italy, the UK, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, the USA and Canada. Yet no matter how far his travels have taken him, Vasilis has always managed to find his way back to his home.
Thessaloniki is considered the main port of the Eastern Mediterranean and Greece’ s cultural capital.
Founded in 315 BC, the city is just 40 kilometres away from Pella, the capital of the Macedonian empire and birthplace of Alexander the Great.
The fusion of Greek, Armenian, Turkish, Jewish, Romanian and Christian Albanian cultures is evident in the architecture, food and music of the city. Here it is possible to meet people from all over the Balkans, Turkey and Egypt. It is a city brimming with nomads.
