HOW IMPORTANT HAS DOING A DEGREE BEEN IN DEVELOPING YOUR PRACTICE AND STYLE?

Very! It has forced me to work in ways I don’t enjoy or would never have chosen or even thought of. There’s been lots of briefs and workshops that at the time I felt were a waste of time but reflecting over the last 2 years everything I have done has been beneficial in some way and pushed my work into areas I didn’t know it could go. I still have a year left and I hope to learn as much in that as I have since I’ve been on the course.

BRISTOL IS A CREATIVE HUB FOR THE LIKES OF STREET ART AND MUSIC, HAS THIS INFLUENCED YOUR WORK?

Definitely, it’s very important to surround yourself with creative people and be in a lively environment when it comes to getting creative. There’s so much to take inspiration from and endless shows and exhibitions which is a constant motive to produce work.  This is a massive contrast from where I grew up, so living in Bristol is a great thing for anybody working in these areas.

WHAT ILLUSTRATORS OR ARTISTS INSPIRE YOU?

I am very easily inspired and influenced as an artist, a lot of the time from other artists and illustrators around me.  It’s great seeing other people’s take on things, such as a brief, as everyone has a different perspective and often think of something that wouldn’t necessarily have crossed your mind. Russ Mills and Luke Dixon have brilliant art and browsing over their work always makes me want to get the sketchbook out.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR DRAWINGS?

I hope people just feel inspired to pick up a pencil or a pen or whatever medium they choose and just create something beautiful. I want to create drawings and illustrations people can just get lost in looking at, and I want people to come away and still be thinking about that piece.
