Nocturnal Issue III | Page 6

THIS ISSUE WE CATCH UP WITH THE REMARKABLE EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD BRISTOL-BASED ARTIST: JUST SCRIBBLE.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN FEELING ART??

"Umm I started drawing when I was nine years old, it was just something that I started to do out of nowhere, as a sort of hobby. I used to draw anime characters and cartoons [laughs] and anything I could get my hands on – games covers, album covers. But then it started to grow into more than just a hobby when I saw just how much people liked my work. I had school friends that would tell me that my work is really good and that I should continue doing it; my family would encourage me. So, from then on I just carried on drawing until I started drawing people, that was when it really took off. I was about ten or eleven when I started to get really serious about art and since then I've just loved art."

WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST HAS BEEN LIKE, HOW DO YOU FEEL GROWING UP IN BRISTOL HAS INSPIRED YOUR WORK??

"I feel like when I started it was really sort of child-like. My favourite artwork was graffiti, I liked really simple characters and cartoons. My whole style was very simple, I just drew very conventional drawings and tried to make it look exactly like the image I was drawing. But as I've grown I've sort of developed, through inspiration from other artists I look at and look towards, my artwork has sort of expanded into more of a expressive and unique style. I would say my knowledge of art has grown as well and with that my work itself has grown. Definitely, it was a very simple basic style and it has expanded into its own thing and I don't even know what to call it or what name I could put to it really."
