July 6 Amichai - The Golan: Past and Present What is the strategic importance of the Golan? Is it negotiable in peace talks? The day began with a hike at Banias, a spectacular nature trail and water fall. This was followed by a climb at Mount Bental from where it is possible to experience first-hand the strategic position of the Heights. They continued to the ancient city of Katzrin where there is a historical re-creation of what the town was like in the days of the Mishna and Talmud (about 200 CE). July 7 Amichai - Living Together and Cooperation in the Galil What's it like to be 'the other'? The group participated in an Arab-Jewish encounter program at Moshav Shorashim. They had an opportunity to meet Arab-Israeli teens their own age, in a relaxed, non-politicized setting to see their culture and life-style, and explore issues relating to Israeli Arabs. Everyone was able to sit together in small, mixed groups and simply get to know one another on a more personal level. They visited the fascinating Druze community in Dalyat El Carmel where they enjoyed home hospitality and heard about the Druze religion and culture. In the evening they will enjoy a cruise on the Kinneret with Senesh and Agnon. July 7 Yesterday was very fascinating. I had my first Arab Jewish dialogue, which had a lot of really unexpected discussions in it. We visited a drewish village and had some of their food. Then we went to tiberias and I had dinner with some friends and went on a cruise for a seminar party. 8
