Concept Vision Development FICO Eataly World, Bologna, Italy Key point The combination of the tradition agriculture production units with the retail use is particularly interesting for our project. The project FICO Eataly World, which stands for Fabbrica Italiana Contadina, will be a 20-acre complex with 10.033 square meters of gardens and pastures outside as well as 9.000 square meters of indoor markets. Eataly World takes that concept to a far grander scale, where you can see the cows who produced the milk that became the cheese you’re eating. Then you can see the aging process of that cheese before it became a nutty, salty, unbelievably complex and delicious sensory experience. But the mission of FICO is larger than having fun—the attraction will also educate both locals and millions of tourists about Italian food. There will be 40 diferent workshops, where you can watch pasta and cheeses being made, plus six multimedia areas to learn about topics such as the future of sustainable farming. FICO will open with more than 2,000 participating companies and is expected to create 3,000 new jobs and draw 6 million visitors a year. And the focus on sustainability can be seen in all aspects of the park: Visitors will be able to hop from stall to stall on custom-made three-wheeled shopping bikes designed by Bianchi. The complex is scheduled to open October 2017.
